Re-Sanding Joints & the Benefits of Installing Polymeric Sand
Not everybody is familiar with the term polymeric sand. What is it? You may ask yourself. Well, most likely if you a have brick paver patio or a brick paver driveway you have polymeric sand in between the joints. That is IF there is still some left over from the many years of neglect.
Polymeric sand is used to fill in the joints in between brick pavers. It is a type of sand that is created by mixing fine sand, binders and additives that help lock pavers together in place. It is different than regular sand, because regular sand not only is it missing the additives that help lock pavers in place, but it can also easily be washed off from pavers joints with rain, therefore leaving the joints exposed to moss, weed growth, insects and paver shifting.

So, what are the benefits of having polymeric sand in your brick paver joints?
- Better interlocking of pavers
- Optimal joint stabilization
- A more aesthetic appearance of paver joints
- A long-lasting finish
- Resistance against natural erosion
- Prevents the growth of weeds and moss
- Prevents insect infestation
- It will withstand heavy vehicular traffic
As you can see the list of benefits is quite impressive. However, not following the proper steps for installation can turn your brick pavers into a mess and create a costly price tag to remove and correct the improper installation. We often encounter future clients with horror stories of unexperienced installers from landscapers, handyman, painters or even customers themselves who thought it was an easy DYI project and turned it into a costly nightmare.
